Wildlife Parks near Tirupur

Tirupur is one of the most beautiful cities in the State of Tamilnadu, South India. There are quite a number of tourist attractions in and around the city. Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park or IGWLS & NP is a well protected area located in Valparai, Pollachi, and Udumalpet Taluks of Coimbatore and Tirupur. The Sanctuary is named after our former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi when she visited the park on 7 October 1961. The Park is also called as "Topslip,"  named after a village in the northeast corner of the park.

Facts About the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park

  • You can add to your sight-seeing list Karianshola, which lies adjacent to the Park. It is a tropical rain forest with tall sky high trees with a well developed canopy forest. This makes an ideal place for serious forest and animal lovers, a must place to visit.
  • You cannot miss the MPCA or the Medicinal Plants Conservation Area where it holds and preserves some of the medicinal plants in the botanical gardens. 
  • Towards its west is the Kerala’s Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary which lies in a varied landscape with lots of surprises. 
  • Twenty five kilometers from Topslip lies the Elephant camp at Chinnar, the best place to watch elephants make their habitat. Swamp and teak plantations in the Seychalli valley are some interesting spots around the place. Tigers, Deer and Bison are a common sight in this region.

Valparai

Just 89 kilometers from Tirupur is Valparai, the most beautiful place and a must place to visit in your lifetime. It is one of the highest elevation hill resorts in the country.  The tea plantation that surrounded the place is a rich spot for deciduous forest to see Panthers prowl and elephant’s tract.

Eravikulam National Park

From Topslip you can reach Grasshills through Vargaliar and Manompally, an excellent place to see, a treat for your eyes. The grass lands are continuous and connect Konalar hut, briddle path and the grass hills of the Eravikulam National Park in Munnar district. Rhododenron, and Kurinji are very popular in this area. And as you go, you can watch Tigers, Elephants, Panther, and other wildlife animals peacefully coexisting within the region. The grass hills ends at Konalar, which is a petite mountain brook across where the Konalar hut was located.

Amaravathi Crocodile Farm

At 80 kilometers towards the east of Coimbatore, and one kilometre from Amaravathi dam lies the Amaravathi Crocodile Farm, a very popular destination from Tirupur. It is a nest for many crocodiles and a home for grizzled squirrels. Elephant tracts and tiger trails are commonly found around the crocodile farm.
