The Solar Energy Association is Tirupur works hard to meet up with the district's energy needs. It has established Solar Energy parks throughout the city to produce 1000 MW of energy every year. The Association is run by many investors, EPC contractors and textile manufacturers. The association is lead by Mr. Raju V R Palanisamy. The city's solar unit allows textile factories and other establishments, with a superfluous demand for energy, to register with them. The registrants would be allowed to use 120KW of energy every day from the Tirupur Solar Energy Park. Very recently, India's first MW scale PV-Diesel Hybrid Solar power plant was released in Tirupur. To be more precise, this is the second of its kind in the world! The one mega watt Solar plant on the roof of Alpine Knits (India) Private Limited produces 65% of the factory's energy needs.

Wind Energy in Tirupur


Wind is another leading renewable source of energy in Tirupur. The district has huge wind farms in places like Gudimangalam. The Gudimangalam Wind Farm was incepted by Orient Green Power Company and its produces nearly 172MW of energy. The wind farm is regarded as Tamil Nadu's biggest independent power producers. Another well known name in Tirupur's wind farms would be Shalivahana Green Energy. The legitimate wind farm produces 20.4MW. The energy produced by these wind farms are directed towards the Tamil Nady State Electricity Grid.

Hydro Energy in Tirupur

Hydro electricity is a means of generating energy through running waters that are stored in tides, dams and reservoirs. In Tirupur there are two Hyrdo power projects namely, one in Udumalpet and the other in Mettupalayam. The Udumalpet hydro electricity power plant acquires its resources from the Thirumurthy Dam and Amaravathy Dam. The plants are designed to harness a capacity of 10MW.

Thermal Plants in Tirupur

A very new Thermal Co-Generation Power Plant is established in Vadamugam, Kangeyampalyam Village in Avinashi, Tirupur. The project revolves around the use of imported biomass and coal. The Thermal plant is run and managed by IG3 Infra Limited. It spans over a land area of 15 acres. The Thermal power plant is designed to produce 48MW of energy.
